Scripture: Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. – 1 Kings 19:3, NLT
Today’s Word
In 1 Kings 18, the prophet Elijah had just called down fire from heaven and destroyed all the prophets of Baal. It was a huge, dramatic victory. You can imagine the excitement, the high he was on. But when Queen Jezebel heard about it, she threatened to kill him. Elijah was terrified and fled for his life. When he finally stopped to rest, he was so discouraged that he wanted to die. He let his feelings rule and tell him he was finished when, in fact, his greatest impact was still in front of him.
God was about to have Elijah mentor Elisha, who would do twice as many miracles as him. Emotions are great when they’re working for us, but they can change in a minute. If you’re depending on feelings to determine your mood, your faith, or your belief, you’ll live up and down. Don’t let them dictate your life. Don’t live worried over that illness, stressed over your work, or guilty over past mistakes. God has you in the palms of His hands. Put your hope back in the Lord.
Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that You have given me the power to rule over the negative emotions that come and try to overwhelm me. I come to You in faith declaring that I am finished with giving any room to negative thoughts and emotions. Fill me with Your joy and peace as I move forward in victory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
Our God is full of mercy. He knows the weight of what you’re carrying. He knows the struggle, the sacrifice. He knows how you’re doing your best to keep it all together, while you’re dealing with a health issue, a child that’s breaking your heart, a loveless marriage, an addiction that’s controlling your life. He sees you praising through the pain, smiling when you feel discouraged, carrying the load of others when you need to be carried.
Nothing is permanent. It’s never too late for God to turn it around. No one is going to doubt the blessing of God on your life. You’re not only going to see it, but other people are going to see it. That’s what it means to be unquestionably free.
If you knew who God was speaking to on your behalf, you wouldn’t live worried, thinking you’re stuck. “The problem is too big, my child is never going to get on course, I don’t have enough votes for my plan.” I can assure you, God is talking about you to the people you need, people that will thrust you into your purpose. You’re concerned about who you’re going to meet, who you’re going to marry. “Do I have the connections?” Stay in peace. God has it figured out. He’s talking to the people you need. Keep honoring Him, and He’ll bring the people that are instrumental for your destiny. You’re not doing this on your own. God is working behind the scenes.
