Today’s Scripture: Luke 5:37, NIV
“And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined.”
Today’s Word On Joel Osteen Today 3rd January 2021 Devotional
We weren’t created to live small lives with little goals, little dreams, and little influence. God created us to live abundant lives. No matter what level you’re at, you’re not supposed to get stuck and stay there. God is a God of increase. He has something bigger in your future.
If you’re going to live this large life, it starts in your thinking. Jesus said, “You can’t put new wine into old wineskins.” Wineskins were made out of leather. When they got old, they hardened and wouldn’t expand. If you put new wine in them, they would burst. Jesus was saying, “You can’t have a new life with old thinking.” You can’t go around thinking you’ve reached your limit and never get good breaks.
Limited thinking leads to a limited life. Get rid of that old wineskin. You are full of possibilities. You have seeds of greatness. There is untapped potential in you right now. Start thinking bigger, believing bigger, and expecting bigger.
Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You that You created me to live an abundant life, not a small life. Thank You that You are a God of increase, and You always have something bigger in my future. Help me to get rid of the old wineskin of limited thinking and to believe and expect bigger. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Raised in Houston, Texas, with a loving family of seven and world-renowned parents in full-time ministry, Joel Osteen never imagined that he would follow so closely in his father’s footsteps. Joel finally agreed to preach the next Sunday, and his father passed the following week. Joel’s first sermon was the last his father ever heard. Joel and his wife, Victoria, were suddenly thrust into full-time leadership of Lakewood Church.
