JOYCE MEYER DEVOTIONAL FOR 5TH NOVEMBER 2023
Our oldest son, David, and his wife once needed a place to live temporarily while their new house was under construction. My son and I are alike in many ways; we are both strong-willed, which does not always mix well in close quarters. Nothing negative had happened between us, but in anticipation of the move, my mind kept coming up with what-ifs.
I found myself regularly talking about negative things that could take place: “What if there is no hot water left for my shower in the morning after everyone else is finished? What if they leave messes for me to clean up?” David and his wife had not even moved in, and nothing bad had yet happened. But the enemy wanted me to criticize and say negative things about the situation in advance, which could have sabotaged the unity God wanted us to enjoy during a short, unique season with our son and daughter-in-law.
If the devil can get us to be negative, he can provide us with negative circumstances. Often, we call for our own problems. We call “into being that which does not exist” (Romans 4:17 AMP), only we do it in the negative sense by sowing negative seeds.
Our son and daughter-in-law did live with us for a month, and everything worked out fine.
Let me encourage you to promote unity by thinking and speaking positively about other people and your relationship with them.
Prayer of the Day: Help me, Lord, to promote unity and not to sabotage it in advance with my thoughts and words.
