TOPIC: LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF ABSALOM (I) ( See Also MFM Daily Devotional 12th April 2021)

Fire Scripture: 2 Samuel 15:1-37

OUTLINE: MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 13 APRIL 2021

Absalom was one of the sons of David, the King of Israel. He was fair and beautiful. He had long hairs which finally trapped him to a tree and led to his death. His beautiful sister, Tamar , was greatly admired by his half-brother, Ammon who eventually tricked her to his house, raped and later hated her. This was the beginning of Absalom’s problem with his father’s house.

Absalom went into exile and returned three years later after getting a state pardon from his father, the king. Forty years after, Absalom conspired against his father and attempted to overthrow him in a botched coup d’e tat which led to his ultimate death at the war front between the armies of Israel and the loyalists of his father. There are several lessons we can learn from the life and times of Absalom.

Let us remeber that God placed a curse on the house of David as a result of his adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of his husband (2 Sam 12:10- 11). We began to see the fulfiment of this curse in 2 Sam 16:20-22 when Absalom slept with his father’s concubines. What a tragedy! This is to confirm to us that the word of God never fails.

Whatever He says shall come to pass; not a jot of His word will go unaccomplished. Although, He loved David so much, yet the curse manifested. Secondly, we can learn that God punishes sin and no sinner will gounpunished. God made David to feel the sorrow of his divided household and antagonistic children, even at his old age.

Are you a true worshipper of God and a man or woman after God’s heart? You need to be watchful. A jot of sin can bring sorrow into your life or household in future. Furthermore, you can pray that your child shall not become the rod of punishment for you in the future in Jesus name.

Memory Verse: Isaiah 8:10 – “Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.”

Motivational Quote: Whatever a man sows he reaps, sow goodness and you reap goodness, sow evil and you reap evil.

Prophetic Word: Every curse of household enemies pulling you into destruction shall be cancelled, in the name of Jesus.

HYMN: The Love of God Is Greater Far

1. The Love of God is greater far Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star, And reaches to the lowest hell.
The guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled, And pardoned from his sin.

Chorus:
O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forever more endure
The saints’ and angels’ song.

2. When hoary time shall pass away, And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men, who here refuse to pray, On rocks and hills and mountains call, God’s love so sure, shall still endure, All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race The saints’ and angels song.

3. Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made.
Were ev’ry stalk on earth a quill, And ev’ry man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above Would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole, Tho’ stretched from sky to sky.
