MFM 15 JULY 2021 DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR THURSDAY

TOPIC: SPIRITUAL STAMINA (II)

Fire Scripture: Eph. 4:13-20

MFM Daily Devotional 15th July 2021 Outline

We started looking at this devotional topic yesterday. Some of the points Apostle Paul emphasised in the fire scripture is that whatever happens, we should stand firm in one spirit. He observed that the trials facing the Philippians could cause them to give up ground to the enemy. They were being persecuted for their faith (Phil 1:29). People in the church were arguing and complaining (Phil 2:14), and false teachers were attacking the congregation (Phil 3:2).

These difficulties could shake their faith in Christ. Still, Paul encouraged them to stand firm. The phrase “stand firm” means to persist or preserve. In other words, it means to develop spiritual stamina. How do we develop spiritual stamina? First, it is by pursuing intimacy with Christ and Christlikeness. Apostle Paul said, “That I may know Him…” The second step is by fostering harmony in the body of Christ or among fellow believers.

Another step is by maintaining your joy in the Lord. Satan is always seeking to attack our joy. He knows that a discouraged Christian is a vulnerable Christian. Other steps are by practising gentleness to all, maintaining a constant awareness of the Lord and by having deep love for God. Jesus is our great example of spiritual stamina. Other examples in the Scripture and in Church history who persevered and pressed on to victory include: Noah, Abraham, Joseph, David and Daniel, Peter, Paul, and so on.

We need to free ourselves from this short-term, self-centred, instant, disposable, materialistic mentality. God has called us to long-distance mountain marathons. We need spiritual stamina. We need to stretch our minds and muscles, deepen our faith, widen our vision, press on towards the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Phil 3:14). Finally, Phil. 2:16 enjoins us to “hold fast the word of life, so that we may rejoice in the day of Christ that we have not run in vain or laboured in vain.

Memory Verse: Phil. 1:27 – Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.

Motivational Quote: Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we do not faint.

Prophetic Word: I decree that you will run and not faint, in the name of Jesus.

HYMN: Take My Life And let It Be

1. Take my life and let it be Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

2. Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

3. Take my voice and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.

4. Take my silver and my gold
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect and use
Ev’ry pow’r as Thou shalt choose.

5. Take my will and make it Thine
It shall be no longer mine;
Take my heart it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne.
