TOPIC: SIBLING RIVALRY (I) ( Also See MFM Daily Devotional 14th April 2021)

Fire Scripture: Psalm 133

MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 15TH APRIL 2021 OUTLINE:

Envy and jealousy are described as evil twins. They are very common among women and have done a great havoc in the home.In thewords of the Psalmistsin today’s Fire Scripture, itis a good thing for brothersto dwell in unity. God delightsin good and healthy relationship in every area of the human society, be itwithin the family, in church or at thework place. We are called to relate in a godly and healthy manner.

However, this does not ignore the individual differences. Rather, asChristians,we should harnessthese differencesto present a biggerpictureof Christinus. Unfortunately, many Christian families are found wanting in the area of sibling rivalry. This is one evil that should not occur in a family. If not checked in earnest, it could degenerate intoserious damagewhichmay tear downthe very fabricof the family.

The Bible is complete. It hasrecords of cases of sibling rivalry, starting from Esau and Jacob. Jacob, aided by hismother, collected his brother’s portion of blessing (Gen. 27). Sad but true isthe story of Joseph and his brethrenwho conspired to kill him, simply because theirfather,Jacob loved and preferred him to the others. To worsen matters, his dreams made them to detest himandhewas eventually soldintoslavery.

Parents need to be very careful not to show favouritism among their children. Imagine what happened to Esau and Jacob. It was an overflow of parental preference. Isaac loved Esau. Rebecca loved Jacob. Mothers, learn from Rebecca! She aided Jacob and earned sorrow at the end. Why should there be the splitting factor between your children? God is not happy at this.

Why don’t you sit back prayerfully and patiently observe the uniqueness of each child as God has endowed them with. Jochebed was discrete with Moses, knowing that there is something unique about this child. After all she has had two other children, (male and female) before him, each person carrying his peculiar gifts, talents and abilities. Such is a wise parent!

God detests anyone that sows discord among brethren. Except for divine intervention, such children may end up as enemies forever. Teach your children to appreciate individual giftedness, and to love each other without reservation. Thank God for Joseph who forgave his brethren, not of him, but God who has been with him and has made him to see his life’s journey as a divine agenda to preserve the entire future nation of Israel.

Siblings, flee every negative comparison, envy and jealousy. They are destroyers, enemies of unity and the Spirit of God. Rather follow peace with one another and you shall see God

Memory Verse: Heb. 12:14 – Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Motivational Quote: “The envious person grows lean with the fatness of their neighbour.

Prophetic Word: The decree of envious enemies over your life shall not come to pass, in the name of Jesus.

I love to sing its worth;
It sounds like music in my ear,

O, how I love Jesus,
O, how I love Jesus,
O how I love Jesus
Because He first loved me!

It tells me of His precious blood,
The sinner’s perfect plea.

3. It tells me what my Father hath
In store for ev’ry day,
And, tho I tread a darksome path,
Yields sunshine all the way.

4. It tells of One whose loving heart
Can feel my deepest woe,
Who in each sorrow bears a part
That none can bear below.
