MFM Daily Devotional 6th April 2021 – Jesus: Our Propitiation

TOPIC: JESUS: OUR PROPITIATION ( See MFM Daily Devotional for 5th April 2021)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Eph. 2:12 – 20

OUTLINE: MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 6TH APRIL 2021

The death of Christ turns away the wrath of God. Apostle Paul said that Christ is our propitiation. By this, he made reference to what Christ did on our behalf before God. Through His atoning sacrifice and finished work on the cross at Calvary, Christ assuaged or pacified God and made Him to remove His wrath from us. The Bible affirms that God gave His Son as a means of the propitiation.

1 John 2:2 underscores it, “And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.” Similarly, the Bible says, “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 4:10). God could not let sin go as a mere slip away. He demanded the atonement and provided it. Hebrews 2:9 adds this, ”It was by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.”

According to the New Testament, propitiation refers to the act of getting rid of sin which has come between God and man. The blood of Jesus satisfies the just requirements of God’s holy law which mankind broke, pays the penalty for man, and thus removes that which had separated between a holy God and sinful man: sin, its guilt and penalty. The LORD God set forth His Son, the Lord Jesus, as the One who would be the satisfaction for our sins.

Because God is satisfied with the payment of the sin debt, His wrath is turned aside, away from the believing sinner. Christ absorbed the wrath of God on our behalf. He bore our punishment as our substitute. God sent His one and only begotten Son who lived and died for our sins. With Christ’s death on the cross, the sinner who believes Him is acquitted. He is our expiatory sacrifice that satisfied the righteousness of God.

His death paid our debt in full and our holy God was satisfied.

Memory Verse: Romans 3:24-25 – We are “justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption, which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith”.

Motivational Quote: Christ our propitiation is available for all who seek Him.

Prophetic Word: Christ’s propitiatory sacrifice over you will not be in vain, in the name of Jesus.

HYMN: Rock of Ages, Cleft For Me

1. Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood, From Thy riven side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure,
Cleanse me from its guilt and pow’r.

2. Not the labours of my hands Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears forever flow, All for sin could not atone;
Thou must save and Thou alone.

3. Nothing in my hand I bring, Simply to Thy cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress,
Helpless, look to Thee for grace;
Foul, I to the fountain fly, Wash me, Saviour or I die!

4. While I draw this fleeting breath, When my eyes shall close in death,
When I rise to worlds unknown,
See Thee on Thy judgement throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.

PRAYER POINTS:

EVENING
4. Lord Jesus, show me the exceeding riches of Your grace, in the name of Jesus
