A man had two sons. The elder brother remained with the father while the younger one took his inheritance, left for an unknown land, lived a riotous life and squandered his possessions. The end of the story is that he “came to himself,” woke up to the reality, and determined he would return to his father in repentance and humility, having suffered so much. For the prodigal son, it was a turning point for good. He was not expecting a celebration. All he wanted was his father’s forgiveness and acceptance.
Surprisingly, he got more than he expected; a warm and loving embrace from the father, a celebration to mark his return, and a change of garment which he did not consider fit for himself, considering the wastage. This is God’s way of receiving the prodigal, and restoring the lost but found, making him or her a bona fide son or daughter of the kingdom.
Perhaps you are like the prodigal son. You have strayed very far from your Maker and you have lived life on your own terms for a long time. The truth of God to you today is that you can still return and receive His acceptance. No matter how long and how far away you have gone, He will take you if you come to Him. As long as there is life, there is still hope. Don’t let the devil deceive you into thinking that your sins are too great to be forgiven.
It is a good thing the prodigal son did not die in a strange land but was able to return to the father. You also have a chance to return to your Father in heaven while you are still alive. Death seals judgement. Do not wait until you die to return to your Maker. He is calling you today. Return to Him and receive His mercy and forgiveness.
