Outline for MFM Devotional Today 7 November 2022

Effective delegation highly benefits the team member or members to whom responsibilities are entrusted as well as the delegator. Today, we shall focus on the benefits of delegation. For a team member, delegation is an affirmation that the leader or organisation believes in you – that you are capable of succeeding in the task assigned to you. It is says, “You can do it!”

It also says, “We are a part of a team and are all counting on you to do your part.” As someone put it, delegation helps others to “own” the ministry or organisation. It develops new abilities and a sense of contribution to the team or organisation. To delegate to others expands the level of competence and confidence in another.

Delegation helps you access the capabilities of those in your organisation or ministry. For instance, in Acts 6, the apostles needed to focus on the ministry of the word and prayer and to effectively carry out their primary calling. They, therefore, appointed seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom and delegated the task of serving tables to them. Two of these deacons, Philip, the great evangelist, and Stephen, the first martyr, went to enter God’s history book.

Because they were faithful in a very little thing”, God gave them the opportunity to be faithful in much. As a leader, what benefits will you get when you delegate effectively? First, delegation will keep you from putting too many irons in the proverbial fire (Exodus 18). It will also allow you to focus on priorities and on planning as well as organising. Second, when you delegate, you build trust, open communication and engagement among your team members.

When you don’t delegate, your team members will be afraid to take initiative and bring new ideas to the table for the actualisation of the team’s common goal. How ever, when your team members realise that their ideas, skills and talents are being utilised, they will feel appreciated, encouraged and fulfilled. Beloved, I counsel you to delegate and become free to focus on higher-value activities (such
