MFM Devotional for 8 September 2022 Thursday | Outline

Yesterday, we considered some lessons from the life of Deborah. Today, we shall look at more of the lessons we can learn from her. Deborah was a mediator, a counsellor and an adviser. She had ability to plan, direct and delegate duties. She called on a military leader, Barak and shared the vision God gave to her with him. She encouraged Barak and acknowledged his role in leading the Israelites to victory.

Her confidence in God’s power gave the Israelites the assurance that God was with them (Judges 4:6-7). Deborah was trusted by her people. The Bible says that when she called on Barak, he responded because of the trust he had in her. Barak did not hesitate to go with her as long as she was ready to go with him (Judges 4:8). Deborah was very confident and courageous. Check out what she told Barak in Judges 4:14.

Also, Deborah was a mother in Israel. She did not question God’s voice or wonder what others would say or think. She simply had the faith to do what God told her. Whether people followed her or not did not bother her. Her only concern was doing what the Lord called her to do without allowing anything get in the way. Beloved, what is God calling you to do? Just like Deborah refused to allow her gender to hinder her from doing the work of God, you should not allow yours to hinder you.

God is ready to use whoever surrenders himself or herself for His work. Furthermore, Deborah maintained a healthy balance between marriage and ministry. She was a wife and a prophetess (Judges 4:4). She fulfilled her ministry and family responsibilities without allowing one to hinder the other. Every minister of God has a lesson to learn from her. Every minister, whether male or female, should live a balanced life.

Let there be a healthy balance between your ministry and other departments of your life. Do not allow any conflict between the family and the ministry.
