TOPIC: HOW TO TURN A SETBACK TO A SPRINGBOARD

Fire Scripture: Psalm 56:1-8

Today’s Outline: In life, adversity or setback can happen to anyone regardless of age and status. However, what you make out of it (failure or success) is up to you. While fleeing from Saul, David found time to compose some magnificent psalms. This is what is meant by turning a setback into a springboard. Can you turn life’s trials and setbacks into a song? Try it today.

Mature Christians, rather than complaining and blaming God or other people, when they face challenges or difficulties, turn the unpleasant situation into an occasion to praise God and thank Him for His goodness. This, therefore, turns the challenge or setback to a springboard for divine intervention and testimonies. That was David’s attitude while he was fleeing from Saul and it is worth emulating.

In the midst of his insecurity and unsettled state, he composed psalms that appreciated God’s goodness and expressed his trust in His unfailing ability to save him from his assailant. This right attitude turned David’s trials to triumphs.

Paul and Silas were arrested, beaten and imprisoned in Philippi because they were doing what Jesus, the Royal Master, commissioned them to do in ministry: preach the word, cast out devils, etc. The One whom they obeyed did not forsake them. They knew how to turn setback to springboard of miracles and testimonies. What did they do? The Bible says that at midnight, Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises and hymns to God.

The result was that the Holy Ghost brought down earthquake that orchestrated their deliverance. It is important to note that neither David nor Paul and Silas threw a pity party; neither did any of them blame God or anyone else. They turned to God, praised Him and made supplication to Him, and they received life-changing help. All these were written for your learning. You can turn a setback to a springboard for miracles and testimonies if you follow the examples of these patriarchs.

The same apostle Paul demonstrated unstinted devotion to his divine assignment that even when he was jailed and put in chain, he said, “Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David – that is my gospel, for which l suffer hardship, even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained” (2 Timothy 2:8-9). Paul turned his adversity to a springboard of achievements and testimonies.

He wrote four epistles (Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians and Philemon) while he was under house arrest in Rome. Is the enemy throwing lemon at you? Make lemonade. Praise and worship the Lord, and He will turn your setback to a springboard for great achievements and testimonies.

Memory verse: 2 Timothy 2:9 – “Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.”

Motivational Quote: Resilience is knowing that you are the only one that has the power and responsibility to pick yourself up.

Prophetic Word: Henceforth, concerning you there shall be no casting down but lifting up, in the name of Jesus.

HYMN: Love lifted me!
