BIBLE READING: ROMANS 13:1-5
1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Ezra 1-2, John 19:23-42
MESSAGE: OPEN HEAVEN FOR TEENS 12 JUNE 2021
Being a child of God does not exempt one from obeying the laws guiding the society we live in. When Jesus was asked in Matthew 17:25 whether it was lawful to pay tax, He said give unto Caesar what is Caesar’s. In other words, obey the laws of the land. There are many benefits of obeying the law. God commands us in our Bible reading to be subject unto authority of the land, so when you obey, you will not partake in the consequences that come with breaking a law such as payment of fine, going to court, jail term and finally God’s wrath.
Also, as a child of God, you are not expected to follow worldly standards; the fact that people disobey laws and orders does not mean you should do the same. Some people litter the floor with dirt and later blame the government for the overflowing drainages and incinerators. Some disobey traffic rules, yet, claim they are Christians. If you’re not obeying the rules laid down by your parents, school authority or the government of your country, you are definitely disobedient to God because God put them in the position of authority.
KEY POINT: Every act of disobedience is a sin; honour God by obeying the law.
HYMN: ALL TO JESUS I SURRENDER
Verse 1
All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
I surrender all,
I surrender all.
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
Verse 2
All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.
Verse 3
All to Jesus I surrender,
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel Thy Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.
Verse 4
All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me.
Verse 5
All to Jesus I surrender,
Now I feel the sacred flame.
Oh, the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory to His name!
