“Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:” Proverbs 24:33
Yesterday, we looked at David’s attitude towards goal-getting. Today, we will be examining Goliaths attitude to goal-getting.
At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him and probably relaxed. I can imagine it was at this point that he let down his guard, seeing that his opponent had no weapon. He must have put aside his huge sword, dropped his shield and thrown both hands in the air to have a really good laugh before cursing David by his gods. What a scene that must have been!
The first lesson from this story is that you must never underestimate the enemy. Some teenagers are overconfident like Samson and keep toying with sin. They tell the opposite sex that God will prevent them from falling into temptation because they are Spirit-filled, whereas, the Bible already told us to “abstain from all appearance of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22 ). Similarly, a little indulgence in idleness or pleasure could make you poor (Proverbs 6:10 ).
Another lesson is that you must avoid pride at all costs. Goliath was proud and boasted by his gods while David confronted him in the name of the Lord. When God sees that you rely on Him for everything, He will definitely throw His weight behind you as a form of defense.
Point: Father, please don’t let me fall prey to the enemy through pride or carelessness, in Jesus name.
