* Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 1 September 2024 Outline:

The surveying of the land was preceded by an important milestone in the life of the Israelites: the setting up of the Tent of Meeting (v.1). Notice the place where it was set up. Shiloh became the central place of worship for Israel, although it was later destroyed by the Philistines (1 Samuel 1:3, 22). Some Israelites felt settled and at home even though not all tribes had received their inheritance.

What challenge did Joshua place before the Israelites (v.3)? How can this inform our response when faced with a demanding task which is partially accomplished, or where procrastination appears to be a better option? Notice Joshua’s strategy and leadership skills in vs.4-6 and 8-10? Providing clear instructions, delegating work, developing other leaders, putting in place reporting mechanisms, and taking responsibility for final decisions are important leadership lessons worth emulating from Joshua.

Take note of Joshua’s dependence on God despite his leadership abilities. Our abilities and skills are not licenses for closing God out of our lives and service. They can never replace the need to depend on God to help us make the right decisions. Take note of the nature of the inheritance allocated to the Levites (v.7).

Faint not, Christian!
1. Faint not, Christian! though the road
Leading to thy blest abode
Darksome be, and dangerous, too;
Christ thy guide will bring thee through.

2. Faint not, Christian! though in rage
Satan would thy soul engage;
Gird on faith’s anointed shield,
Bear it to the battlefield.

3. Faint not, Christian! though the world
Has its hostile flag unfurled;
Hold the cross of Jesus fast—
Thou shalt overcome at last.

4. Faint not, Christian! though within
There’s a heart so prone to sin;
Christ the Lord is over all;
He’ll not suffer thee to fall.

5. Faint not, Christian! though thy God
Smite thee with His chastening rod;
Smite He must, with father’s care,
That He may His love declare.

6. Faint not, Christian! Jesus’ near,
Soon in glory He’ll appear;
And His love will then bestow
Power over every foe.

7. Faint not, Christian! look on high,
See the harpers in the sky;
Patient wait, and thou wilt join—
Chant with them of love divine.

Closing Prayer
