Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 10 March 2023

This passage marks the beginning of the events of the Passion or Holy Week with Jesus leaving Jericho (Mark 10:46) to enter Jerusalem (v.1a), eat the Passover and finally be crucified.

Notice His clear instructions in vs.2-3 and how everything He said was fulfilled in detail (vs.4-6). It is very comforting to know that the Lord is fully aware of the daily occurrences in our lives. Apart from the two disciples, observe the contribution several other people made to the celebration of that significant day (vs.5-6; 7-8 and 9-10). Although the crowd shouted “Hosanna”, a call on Jesus to “save us now”, they lacked the spiritual insight to comprehend the real Kingship and Messiaship of Jesus.

They, like even the disciples, looked up to Him as a political Messiah who will free Israel from the Roman authorities. Jesus was a different Messiah (John 18:36). The colt in ancient times bears people’s burdens. Kings and their emissaries use it when they enter a city in peace, to express their peaceful intentions (see Judges 5:10; 10:4). On the other hand, when a king enters a city as a conqueror, he rides on a full-grown male horse (a stallion). May we learn from the master’s humility and pursue peace with all men and always.

Practice/Word Application
