Scripture Union Daily Guide 10 October 2025 Outline
Unlike the Levitical priesthood which is for a limited period due to death, Christ’s priesthood is eternal. His life being indestructible (Hebrews 7:16), He lives and serves as a priest forever (Hebrews 7:17,21-24). Check Hebrews 7:18-19,20-21,27-28 for some other differences. That Jesus’ priesthood lasts forever means He is ever present to save those who come to God through Him. Unlike the Levitical priesthood, there is no need to find regular replacements due to the death of the high priest. Jesus also lives forever to intercede on behalf of those who come to God through Him (Hebrews 7:25). So, we have the guarantee that God hears our prayers and continually forgives our sins. In Jesus, we have assurance of our salvation.
How does Jesus’ example as an intercessor motivate and challenge us as His followers? While we celebrate the awareness of Christ’s continual intercession for us, we must also realise that we are obliged to follow His example of intercessory ministry. The ministry of intercession is a priestly calling on all believers and more so, on all who occupy leadership positions: pastors for their church members, Sunday School teachers for their group members, etc.
And So
What difference does Jesus’ “once-for-all” sacrifice make to you in terms of your security with God and your desire to follow Him?
