God’s promise to the Israelites was firm and secure. See Exodus 3:8; 33:1-3. Had they implicit faith in their God, they would have known that having rescued them out of Egypt and having led them thus far, He was committed to His word to deliver the land into their hand (Numbers 13:2a). There was no need to demand that spies should go into the land to view it or assess the strength of their enemy (see Deuteronomy 1:19–24).
As God did later when they demanded a king contrary to His plan for them (1 Samuel 8:6-9; 9:15-17), He did not abandon them but gave the guideline for the composition of the spy team (Numbers 13:2b). The team comprised one recognized leader from each of the twelve tribes. What lesson can we learn from this in the multi-ethnic situation of our countries? How important is it that the name of each chosen leader and that of his father and tribe are recorded?
Notice the strategy and clear terms of reference that Moses gave them (Numbers 13:17-20a). A great trust was reposed on these spies and that required that they should be faithful in the discharge of their duty. They were themselves to be encouraged against the difficulties of this expedition and to bring encouraging reports to the people.

PRAY FOR:
* The young people may truly experience genuine salvation that will transform their lives and make them live righteously. • The fear of God will rule in the hearts of the youths and for grace to say NO to all forms of sexual immorality and unholy lifestyles. • Courage and power to stand out for Christ and to remain undefiled in all their relationships especially with the opposite sex; and keep sex for marriage.
