OUTLINE: SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 11TH FEBRUARY 2021 DEVOTIONAL
Worship and show of gratitude to God should be a believer’s daily routine. But, how often do we do this? Is it forgetfulness, carelessness or presumption? Nevertheless, God continues to be faithful and generous, consistently dishing out favours and blessings, even to the ungrateful. As God’s people acknowledged here, their entire history has been full of miracles of mighty deliverances, divine provisions and guidance (vs.10-22).
But thanking God is beyond mere personal and group benefits. Despite His awesome power, God is eternally good in His character and personality (vs.1-3), as also manifested in creation (vs.4, 5-9), and how He cares for the entire world, especially the needy (vs.23 – 25). For all these and more, we must worship and thank God daily, all day and throughout our lives. We see this particularly highlighted in the refrain.
Israel developed worship songs to be sung by the entire community; with a leader and refrain, such as this Psalm. What can we do in our different situations to promote individual and group worship and gratitude to God (in families, churches and fellowship groups, neighbourhoods, workplaces, classrooms, etc)?
Practice/Word Application:
• Action: Start a journal with daily, weekly or monthly entries, indicating God’s specific interventions as He provides or delivers, heals, guides, etc.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
HYMN: GOD LOVETH THE RIGHTEOUS
1. God loveth the righteous,
His goodness is sure.
He never forsaketh
The good and the pure.
Yet once my faith faltered,
I envied the proud,
In doubt and disquiet
My spirit was bowed.
2. The wicked are prosperous
And firm in their strength,
No pangs do they suffer,
Though death come at length.
They are not in trouble
As other men are,
The plagues of their fellows
They view from afar.
3. In garments of boasting
And violence decked,
With wealth more abundant
Than heart could expect,
They scoff, and the helpless
They proudly oppress.
The heavens and the earth
They assume to possess.
4. Despising God’s people,
They cause them to drain
The cup of oppression,
Injustice and pain.
They question God’s knowledge
And boldly defy
The might and the justice
Of God the Most High.
Closing Prayer:
• Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, and His love endures forever.
• Pray against the spiritual strongholds militating against peace and unity in Nigeria
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 69:13-17 – 13. But as for me, my prayer is to You, O LORD, at an acceptable time; O God, in the greatness of Your lovingkindness, Answer me with Your saving truth.
14. Deliver me from the mire and do not let me sink; May I be delivered from my foes and from the deep waters.
15. May the flood of water not overflow me Nor the deep swallow me up, Nor the pit shut its mouth on me.
16. Answer me, O LORD, for Your lovingkindness is good; According to the greatness of Your compassion, turn to me,
17. And do not hide Your face from Your servant, For I am in distress; answer me quickly.
