Scripture Union Daily Guide 14th April 2026 – Outline

The Babylonian governor, Nebuzaradan, understood and believed the word of God more than the Israelites, God’s chosen people. He seemed to be acquainted with Jeremiah’s prophecies. See his summary in Jeremiah 40:2-3. If a foreigner understood the situation so well, one wonders why the people of God should so miss it. How we too sometimes miss the move of God while those around us recognize and experience His ministration in their life (see Luke 4:25-27).

God raised the enemy to give to Jeremiah the care and honour his people denied him. God in his faithfulness provides for his servants. Jeremaiah loved his people and wanted to live among them. Had he gone to Babylon, he may have been better cared for, but he chose to remain with the weak remnant. Meanwhile, Gedaliah had the prophet with him, but he did not inquire of him when he received warnings from the army officers (Jeremiah 40:13-14).

His neglect of Jeremiah’s service and the officers’ warning was later to lead to his downfall. Do you listen to advice? It is good to listen to advice. However, we need to consider carefully the source and import of the advice to know whether it is in line with God’s word. See Proverbs 19:20.
