Scripture Union Daily Guide 15 January 2025 Outline:

This Psalm begins with a testimony about God’s faithfulness through all generations (Psalm 89:1) and towards the end, Ethan, the psalmist, asked, “How long, Lord? Will you hide yourself forever?” (Psalms 89:46). Have you ever found yourself in the threatening darkness of doubt when it seems that all the light of God is gone, and all the promises you believed have failed? How did you respond to that situation? With how many verses in today’s passage can you directly connect? What aspect of the cross event, in your view, could be a fulfilment of Psalms 89:41,44-45,50-51.

A dear mentor reminded me one day as we drove together, “Do not doubt in the dark, what God promised you in the light”. The beautiful footprints in the sand poem ends with, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you. Never, ever, during your trials and testing. When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”

The cross of Christ is not just the tree on which He died, it’s a representative of the high cost of denying self to sin and Satan on this side of eternity. A Christian should not count it strange to experience suffering. Someone has said, “Any gospel without the cross is not the gospel of Christ.” Every believer and disciple of Christ must remember His promise in John 16:33.
