TOPIC: FROM HUMILIATION TO GLORY
OPENING PRAYER: Oh Lord, fill me with the power of the Holy Ghost as I study your word.
SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 60:1-22

Question(s) for Reflection
* Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
* Q4: Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 16 May 2024 OUTLINE

Sin always brings disgrace and reproach (Proverbs 14:34). Because of sin, God punished His people, sent them to exile while Jerusalem was destroyed, laid in ruins and desolation for several decades. This period was a period of darkness for Israel. However, in vs.1-3, God announces a new manifestation of His redeeming glory for the restoration of Zion. Our world was also in darkness until God, in His mercy, sent His light to us (John 1:1; Colossians 1:13-14). What does this teach us about the character of God?

The people of God will be delivered from their captivity and will experience glorious restoration from their disgrace and humiliation. What are the specific components of the restoration (vs.4-9, 10, 11&14)? But God does nothing without a purpose. What is the purpose of this restoration (vs.16b, 21, 22) and what is the implication for us (Matthew 5:13-16)?

The picture of restoration that Isaiah gives here is not only physical but also spiritual and eternal. Read vs.15-20 again and compare it with Revelation 21:22-27. How do these promises encourage us in the face of contemporary persecution and reproach that the church is facing?

Practice/Word Application
So what? The true and total restoration of all things will only be in the New Jerusalem. How are you preparing to be there?
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
Father, as I enjoy your glory here, help me not to lose sight of the greater glory that awaits me in the New Jerusalem.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with John 14:13
“And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
