Scripture Union Daily Guide 16th April 2025 Outline

The natural instinct in man when accused falsely, is to vehemently refute the allegation. But Jesus would not respond at all, and Pilate marvelled that Jesus would not defend Himself (Matthew 27:12-14). Isaiah had prophesied earlier that as a lamb taken to the slaughter, he did not open his mouth (Isaiah 53:7). Jesus chose to suffer! Consider the verdict of Pilate despite his wife’s warning (Matthew 27:19), his understanding of the reason for Jesus’ arrest (Matthew 27:18), and his own personal conviction (Matthew 27:24). See also John 18:35,19:4,6.

What do you make of this about judgment even today in some of our courts despite overwhelming evidence? Can Christians in the legal system make a difference by being courageous in judgment?
The crowd being greatly influenced by their leaders, sadly preferred the release of a robber. See the extent of their ignorance in Matthew 27:25.

What influence drives your actions? However, knowing why He came into the world, Jesus chose to suffer and was consumed by this passion. He would not bat an eye over His experience with these people. He was ready and would not be distracted by the impending danger in the unfolding events. What a Saviour!

And So:
Are you easily distracted from God’s mandate on your life due to some envisaged danger or hardship?
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer:
Lord, grant me grace to choose to follow your course for my life, not minding what may lie ahead.
