Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 17 January 2023
Having failed in his first attempt to help the children of Israel, Moses put the whole idea completely off his mind. God did not; and He decided to grab the attention of Moses in a dramatic way (vs.1-4). Moses had not realized that it is not only important to do the right thing but to do it at the right time and in the right way. It is now God’s time, and He was going to lead Moses to do it in His own way.
First, Moses needed to know God in a personal way. The God of his forefathers called him by name (v.4) and revealed to him His own name (vs.13-14). Second, Moses had to show due reverence to this God (vs.5-6). Finally, God decided to send him on an errand, and He made His message very clear (vs.7-10). Moses had one important lesson still to learn. As our people say, “When the leopard sends you on an errand you are not afraid of the jackal.”
Moses still had the fear of Pharaoh at the back of his mind (v.11). See God’s response in vs.12, 19-22. For you to be God’s mouthpiece, you need His self-disclosure (vs.14-15).
