Scripture Union Daily Guide 17th July 2024 Outline:
Ponder prayerfully over the various laws provided for in this passage (vs.3-19). Why were the people given these laws covering practically every area of their daily lives? It is required that Israel should be a holy people because the God of Israel is a holy God (v.2).
Israel was distinguished from all other people by peculiar laws and customs. This was meant to help them pursue a real separation from the world, and the flesh, and an entire devotedness to God. As God’s holy people (1 Peter 1:15-16), we must also be consecrated to God’s honour and conformed to His nature and will.
V.10 shows clearly that God cares for the poor and the alien. As people of God, the Israelites must reflect His nature and characteristics in their attitudes and actions. In what ways can we also leave the “edges of (our) field” for those in need?
We are also required to be:
(1) honest and true in all our dealings (v.11). All that we have in the world, we must see to it that we get them honestly.
(2) To be reverent regarding the sacred name of God (v.12). Let your yes be yes, and your no, no!
(3) We are not to take nor keep anyone’s right from him (v. 13). We must not take what does not belong to us. Prayerfully meditate on the rest of the guidelines and let God speak to you.

Closing Prayer
May I, in my dealings with people and God, be seen to reflect the very nature of Jesus who is my Saviour and Lord.
