Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 18 February 2023

After God’s great deliverance from their enemy, Moses led the Israelites into the desert of Shur. They travelled for three days without finding water. When they came to the Oasis of Marah, the water was too bitter to drink. What a disappointment? But that is life, full of victories and failures, mountains, and valleys. How should we respond to disappointments in our life’s journey, like the people (v.24) or like Moses (v.25a)? How we miss God’s blessings and interventions when we complain instead of bringing our troubles to Him in prayer and experiencing His miraculous intervention (v.25b).

Through this incident, the Lord revealed himself to the people as, “the Lord who heals you”. He promised to also protect them from the diseases He put on the Egyptians. Take note, however, of the conditions attached to this promise in v.26. As we read the Bible daily, let us ensure to respond in obedience so we can enjoy God’s promised blessings.

After leaving Marah, they travelled on to the Oasis of Elim. What a contrast (v.27)? How we too quickly grumble and complain about the current lack, only to soon be embarrassed by God’s abundance!

Practice/Word Application
And so: Claim God’s promise in Isaiah 43:18-19.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
My Father, please forgive my past complaints and grumblings and intervene miraculously in my situation.
