Question(s) for Reflection
* Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
* Q4: Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 18 May 2024 OUTLINE

Jerusalem was like a bride who was deserted and desolate with nothing to desire of her. Read vs.2-5 again and outline what God promised to do for her. What is the significance of giving someone a new name in your context (v.2b)? Notice the new names that God will give Jerusalem (vs.4, 12). Hephzibah means, “My delight is in her” and Beulah, “Married.”

Like Jerusalem, many African nations have lost their glories and are in dire need of restoration. They are deserted by their citizens who seek better opportunities in other nations. Deliverance and restoration are the works of God. But the people of God have very important part to play in bringing God’s promises to reality (2 Chronicles 7:14).

What can we learn from Isaiah in v.1 (cf.1 Thessalonians 5:17; Luke 18:1)? God expects us to pray for our nations (vs.6-7; 1 Timothy 2:1-4). Rather than looking for opportunity to run away to other nations, let’s arise and intercede for our land. “If there are people to pray, there is a God to answer.”
