The way a person dies often predicts those who could attend the funeral, apart from family members and close friends. However, in this story, we see that while the disciples had fled the scene, others not so close to Jesus were the ones who stepped in to care for Him at His death.
Read Matthew 27:57-60 again (John 19:38-42). What can we learn from Joseph’s action? Though a member of the Sanhedrin, he was not ashamed to identify with Jesus at such a moment. He used his influence to serve God’s purpose, not minding that it could negatively impact his status in the society. By his action, he provided the most authentic evidence for Jesus’ resurrection – the empty tomb. Nicodemus had an encounter with Jesus that changed his life (John 19:39). The women were constantly at the scene at every moment.
What do you make of the action of the religious leaders in Matthew 27:62-64? By their action, they provided further authenticity of the resurrection story. Some enemies may make plans they consider will retard your progress. Trust the Lord. He will turn their plans to your good. His purpose for you shall stand.

Lord, grant me grace never to abandon you or my brethren at any critical moment.
Prayer for the Week:
Pray for the leadership of Christian Organizations – CAN, PFN, etc., that they will understand their role in the unity of the church, and to play the role well.
Pray that the Lord will deliver those who are given to greed and selfishness thereby bringing disrespect to the name of the Lord.
