Opening Prayer: Grant me depth of insight, revelation and knowledge as I meditate on this passage, O Lord.

Notice the mercy of the Lord in raising Ehud and giving him to the Israelites as their deliverer. No matter the depth of disobedience and waywardness, genuine repentance, and a cry to the Lord for forgiveness and deliverance touches His heart! For whoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved and will never be put to shame (Romans 10:11-15). So, when “again the Israelites cried out to the Lord . . . He gave them a deliverer — Ehud . . .” (Judges 3:15). Reflect on the strategy that Ehud used to destroy Eglon, king of Moab (Judges 3:16-23).
Compare this to David’s submission in Psalms 18:29,34. What lessons can you pick about safety and safeguarding those who are under your care and responsibility?
Not much is said about Judge Shamgar, except that he struck down six hundred Philistines with an ox-goad—a feat that can only be accomplished by the power of the Lord. Whatever our battles, the name of the Lord is a great refuge to which the righteous flee for safety!
