Scripture Union Daily Guide 1st April 2025 Outline

God attaches much importance to both our relationship with Him as well as our relationship with one another. The same way He has special interest in our faithfulness to our vows/pledges to Him and our fellow men (Psalms 50:14, Ecclesiastes 5:4-5). Words are powerful and must be used carefully.

There are instances in the scripture of persons who made vows (rashly or otherwise). While some kept theirs (Jephthah: Judges 11:35), others, unfortunately, did not (Shimei, Saul, Israelites). What are the implications and consequences of such actions? Many, including believers, regrettably, are repeating similar mistakes today. What are those vows/pledges you made to God, your spouse, parents/children, servants, etc? How faithful are you in keeping them?

Read Numbers 30:3-8. Note that God acknowledges the presence of authority. A wife’s vow may be cancelled by the husband and a daughter’s by her father. This makes for harmony and smoth running of the family. A submissive wife will want to involve the husband in the disbursement of the family finances. The husband should also take the wife into confidence. It must be noted that this principle does not involve offering or giving.

* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer:
Father, please forgive our unfaithfulness in our vows and grant us grace henceforth to keep them.
