Scripture Union Daily Guide 1st August 2024 Outline:
‘Judge not the Lord by feeble sense but trust him for his grace. Behind a frowning providence, He hides a smiling face.”
The hymn writer of this verse raptly explains Psalm 73. It begins with “God is good” (v.1) and ends with “it is good” (v.28), but between these two statements there are challenges we cannot fully explain with our feeble sense. Read vs.2-16 and notice the Psalmist’s dilemma. He confessed he was almost consumed by envy and jealously as he watched the prosperity and arrogance of the ungodly.
Yes, God is good, but when David pondered on the success of the wicked and the sorrows of the righteous, he began to falter in his faith. It seemed that he was wasting his time and energy by being faithful to God because the unfaithful appeared to receive all the blessings.
He did not realize what he called ‘good’ was not what God would call ‘good’. He was walking by sight not by faith.
Read v.17 and take note of the results of viewing life from God’s viewpoint? The turning point came when David went into the sanctuary and started looking at things from God’s viewpoint. He simply realized that the most important thing in life is not what you own or enjoy but where you are going to spend eternity.

Closing Prayer
Reflect on Philippians 2:9-11 and thank the Lord for His great gift to mankind.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”
