Scripture Union Daily Guide 20 September 2024 Outline:
How do we experience the greed and actions of Eli’s children in the Church and Christian community today? Eli’s sons’ disregarded God’s command and requirements for their service. As if that was not enough, those who were meant to be God’s priests, who were to minister to God and care for the people, abused the people by engaging in sexual immorality with them (v.22). Who can atone for such? Who would plead their case? Today, we have the promise of the advocate who intercedes for the repentant (1 John 2:1).
God accused Eli of not disciplining his sons. What was wrong with the way he corrected them to warrant God blaming him for his sons’ misbehaviour (vs.23-25a)? How do we correct and discipline our children, nieces, nephews, and others for whom we are responsible?
Notice the consequences and judgment attached to the behaviour of Eli’s sons (vs.30-36). The sins of his sons had brought a generational blessing to an end. They activated a curse upon the subsequent generation. How do we handle the work of God and what are the consequences? How sad to be replaced by someone else in God’s vineyard and service. His was a terrible end to what would have been a blessing in service.

Oh, that I may serve you, Lord, with reverence and awe.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Romans 12:14
“Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.”

THANK GOD FOR:
‣ His faithfulness and mercies towards the National Advisory Committee Members and their families.
‣ The provisions, protections and good health granted unto them.
PRAY FOR:
‣ Travelling mercies for Committee members as they travel.
‣ All the Committee members will operate in the fear of the Lord with a perfect heart.
