Scripture Union Daily Guide 20 September 2025 Outline

Words can kill! Words can destroy! Notice how Job described the words of his friends (Job 19:2). Our words have the power of life and death (Proverbs 18:21). With our words, we can either pull people up or push them down. Thus, it is important to be cautious about what we say especially to people who are hurting. Although Job was overwhelmed by the persistent wrong accusations of his friends (Job 19:3), he placed the responsibility for his suffering on God (Job 19:5-12). In the past, Job was a wealthy man who had many people at his beck and call but at this point in time he was abandoned, stigmatized, and humiliated (Job 19:13-20).

What do you understand by Job 19:21-22? Read Job 19:23-27 again. What can we learn from Job? Amid his suffering, Job had hope. He believed and looked forward to restoration from the Lord. What a great lesson of faith! Amid our many sufferings, let’s keep hope alive and have faith that Christ, our Redeemer, is in control. He will turn things around for our good. He is coming soon to remove us from this world of pain and suffering.
