Scripture Union Daily Guide 21 June 2024: Paul’s Final Warnings And Greetings

Daily Guide Devotional For Today 21st June 2024 (Friday)

TODAY’S TOPIC: PAUL’S FINAL WARNINGS AND GREETINGS
OPENING PRAYER: Oh Lord, fill me with the power of the Holy Ghost as I study your word.
SCRIPTURE: 2 CORINTHIANS 13:1-14

Question(s) for Reflection
* Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
* Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 21 June 2024 Outline:

Observe how Paul, though full of apostolic authority, puts correction at the end of his letter after appropriate admonitions and exhortations. Many others would have put it in the beginning to prove their authority. He exercises his authority not for the destruction of the Corinthians but for their edification and restoration (vs.9-10).

This is an example that some of our leaders need to follow in order to see less and less wounded people in our churches! Note that Paul, irrespective of his physical appearance, is God’s instrument. He uses God’s methods to deal with sins by God’s power (vs.3-4). He warns sinners to repent. However, he will not spare any obstinate and unrepentant offender (v.2).

Too often, we are quick to critically examine others but fail to turn the searchlight on ourselves. That’s what the Corinthians did. They examined and criticised Paul and forgot about themselves. Paul is clear; “Examine yourselves …” (v.5). In other words, he is prompting them to ask, “Am I really a Christian?” If we don’t examine ourselves now, we may discover later that we failed the test.

Practice/Word Application
What next? As he ends his letter and bids them farewell, what are the four things Paul asks the church in Corinth to do? Imagine how wonderful it will be if all churches and believers in Africa follow these principles.

Closing Prayer
Lord, help us as your children, to aim at perfection, be of one mind, live in peace and love one another.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Hebrews 11:1
