Scripture Union Daily Guide 21 September 2025 Outline

Job’s resolve to hold on to his convictions and defy the wrong theological stand of his friends made Zophar angry (Job 20:1-3). He went on to repeat the same common belief of the time, on the assumption that Job was suffering the fate of every wicked man, and he believed that Job knew this was true (Job 20:4-5). Although Zophar’s conclusion about Job was not true, his words reveal timeless truths about life which are also supported by other passages of the Scripture. Wicked and selfish politicians in the African continent should learn from Zophar’s eternal truth (Job 20:4-5,10).

Zophar’s words reveal that the joy of those who gain prosperity, success, fame, positions, etc. through deceit, corruption, and oppression is temporary (Job 20:5-11). A life built on greed, exploitation, or selfishness will ultimately lead to destruction (Job 20:12-19; Proverbs 11:18-19). Do you remember examples of such people in your community? We also need to examine our priorities and pursuits. Do our ways of seeking prosperity align with the principles of God’s word? What other lessons can we learn from Job 20:20-29? We should not envy the prosperity of the wicked. Their ultimate fate lies in God’s hands.

There shall be shower of blessing
1. There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.

Refrain
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need:
Mercy drops round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead.

2. There shall be showers of blessing,
Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys,
Sound of abundance of rain.

3. There shall be showers of blessing;
Send them upon us, O Lord;
Grant to us now a refreshing,
Come, and now honor Thy Word.

4. There shall be showers of blessing:
Oh, that today they might fall,
Now as to God we’re confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call!

5. There shall be showers of blessing,
If we but trust and obey;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
If we let God have His way.

Closing Prayer
Dear Lord, help me to seek your righteousness which gives lasting blessings, rather than transient wealth of this world.
