Scripture Union Daily Guide 21st March 2025 Outline
Today’s reading opened with a remarkable event. Observe what happened (Matthew 17:1-3). Whenever we spend time in the presence of God, we experience His glory in a special way. Example is Moses whose face was shining after his encounter with God (Exodus 34:30). Peter, James and John encountered Jesus’ glory first hand and that experience stayed with them throughout their lives and ministries (1 Peter 1:18; 1 John 1:1-2).
The two great men who appeared represent the Law (Moses) and the Prophets (Elijah). These were two major ways God used to reveal Himself to His people. At the mount of transfiguration, both were taken over and superseded by Christ who is God’s final revelation and communication to humanity (Hebrews 1:1-2). He is the consummation of the Law (Romans 10:4) and the Prophets.
Peter proposed three shelters, one each for Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. By this, Peter placed Jesus at the same level with the other two men. However, God promptly interrupted and declared Jesus as His only beloved Son. He is the only One to whom we should listen. Note the instruction given to them in Matthew 15:9. No doubt, the full understanding of the event only dawned on them after Jesus’ resurrection.

Closing Prayer:
Lord Jesus, you are the one and only Son of God. Help me always to listen to you and you alone.
