Scripture Union Daily Guide 23 November 2025 Outline
The Christian race is likened to a relay race where a team of four athletes run equal predetermined distances in a sprint, each passing a ‘baton’ to the next, in the race. Those who started the faith before us are referred to as the “cloud of witnesses”. One day, we will also leave the stage for others coming behind.
Notice in Hebrews 12:1 what we should lay aside as we run the race so we can finish well. Think of some practical examples of things in your context that constitute weights that you need to lay aside. Are you currently struggling with any of these?
Read Hebrews 12:2 meditatively again. Why should we keep our eyes on Jesus as we run the race set before us? Believers need to run and pass on Christian virtues from one generation to another with our eyes fixed on Jesus because He is our model. We learn everything and draw our strength and inspiration from Him (John 15:1-4; Matthew 14:30).
As we run the race, we often face temptations and commit infringements (Hebrews 12:4) and there might be a need for discipline. See 1 Corinthians 9:24-27;2 Timothy 2:5. What are the benefits of accepting discipline (Hebrews 12:5-11)? Beyond other benefits, if we want to share in God’s holiness, we must be willing to accept His loving discipline.
And So
Lay aside any sin or weight that easily ensnares you.

Revive thy work, o Lord
1. Revive Thy work, O Lord!
Now to Thy saints appear;
O speak with power to every soul,
And let Thy people hear.
Refrain
Revive Thy work, O Lord!
While here to Thee we bow;
Descend, O gracious Lord, descend;
O come and bless us now.
2. Revive Thy work, O Lord!
Exalt Thy precious name,
And may Thy love in every heart
Be kindled to a flame.
3. Revive Thy work, O Lord!
And bless to all Thy Word,
And may its pure and sacred truth
In living faith be heard.
4. Revive Thy work, O Lord!
Give Pentecostal showers;
Be Thine the glory, Thine alone
The blessing, Lord, be ours.
Closing Prayer
Lord, help me to fix my eyes on you and endure your discipline as a loving Father.
