Scripture: Matthew 18:1-11

Question(s) For Meditation:
► Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 23rd March 2025 Outline

To insist on order of precedence is normal in all societies. While inviting a man to the high table at a wedding reception, the Master of Ceremony called him Mr. instead of Chief. The man became angry. He retorted, “I am chief, not Mr” quite like the argument going on among the disciples (Matthew 18:1, cf., Mark 9:34)? “I am the first, the most important disciple”.

Read Matthew 18:2-5 and find out the pathway to greatness as stated by Jesus, then, ponder on those child-like attitude Jesus demands of us. Think about children’s humility and total dependence on their parents, entrusting their lives totally into the parents’ hands.

‘Little ones’ in Matthew 18:6 does not refer to children alone. New believers fall into this category. We must beware what example and teaching we give them.

Members of our body are often entry points for sin. The gravity of sin and its consequence is greatly highlighted by the drastic measures Jesus prescribes in Matthew 18:8-9. While these are not meant to be taken literally, the warning is clear: we cannot afford to play with sin.

And So:
Offenses destroy the faith and health of both the offenders and the offended. Cut it off from your life!

Little children, come to Jesus
1. Little children, come to Jesus;
Hear Him saying, Come to Me;
Blessèd Jesus, who to save us
Shed His blood on Calvary.
Little souls were made to serve Him,
All His holy law fulfill;
Little hearts were made to love Him,
Little hands to do His will.

2. Little eyes to read the Bible
Given from the heav’ns above;
Little ears to hear the story
Of the Savior’s wondrous love;
Little tongues to sing His praises,
Little feet to walk His ways,
Little bodies to be temples
Where the Holy Spirit stays.

3. There are little crowns in Heaven,
There are little harps of gold;
There are little shining dresses,
There are gems and joys untold.
Jesus gave His blood to buy them;
He has bought enough for all;
Little children, come to Jesus—
He has love for great and small.

Closing Prayer:
Dear Holy Spirit, please help me cut off all sources of offenses in my life through sanctification of my body, mind and spirit.
