Grant me grace dear Lord to apply what you will teach me today as I read this passage.
SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 64:1-12

Question(s) for Reflection
* Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
* Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
* Q6: Is there any prayer for me to remember?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 24 May 2024 Outline:

Isaiah appeals for divine intervention in the predicament of His people (v.1). He was sure that if God should display His presence like He did in Sinai (Exodus 19:16-20), the enemy nations will tremble and flee (vs.2-3). Read vs.4-5b again and identify three things expected of God’s people as they expect God’s intervention? See what the people did instead in vs.5b-7.

There are lots of challenges in our lives and nations for which we also need divine intervention. God expects us to wait for Him, live righteous and godly lives while we pray for His intervention. If we wait for the Lord, He will act on our behalf (v.4b; Exodus 13:13-14; Isaiah 40:29-31). But waiting is not easy for us. We always want to do something for which we can take credit. V.6 rightly describes all our human efforts.

But waiting on the Lord is not passive inactivity (Amos 6:1). Rather, it is quiet, expectant, and trustful reliance on the covenant-keeping God, our Father and Creator (v.8), with humble and repentant hearts (v.9). What can we learn from Isaiah’s prayer in vs.8-12?

Practice/Word Application
