Scripture Union Daily Guide 24th June 2025 Outline
One wonders if the barrenness in Manoah and his wife was because God was preparing them for this special assignment (Judges 13:3), to bring forth a deliverer, a type of Christ who would execute God’s plan for His people. The son promised being a Nazirite (Judges 13:5), meaning that he was to be “consecrated” or “dedicated” to God, notice the instructions surrounding his birth (Judges 13:4-6). Quite a responsibility for the parents and more so, the mother. That may explain Manoah’s eagerness to know God’s will concerning the upbringing of the child (Judges 13:8,12). He does not want to mess things up. What does this teach us about the role of parents in training children in godliness? How eager are you to know God’s will and to do it?
Our God hears our prayers when we call upon Him (Jeremiah 33:3). The angel revisited Manoah and his wife to relay the message a second time. It reflects the heavenly interest and seriousness of the message. God hates and punishes sin, but He is ever ready to extend His hand of love and mercy to rescue His people when they turn to Him in repentance. That is the story around the birth of Samson, a messenger of God for deliverance of His people, Israel.
Why did Manoah pray that the angel should return to them again (Judges 13:8)? Note the respect with which the message was received and their eagerness to obey the instructions about the child who was to be born. How obedient are you to the word of God?
Closing Prayer:
Lord, look mercifully on your children who have waited many years for the blessing of children.
