Today is Christmas Day, celebrated throughout the Christian world to commemorate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In this passage, we may note three important themes: The birth of Jesus Christ – a historical event: The historical setting has been provided by the writer, Dr Luke.
Note the specific names of the emperor and the governor provided in vs.1-2 at the time of His birth. The registration exercise legislated was what eventually led Joseph to travel all the way from Nazareth to Bethlehem, being from the lineage of David. These are verifiable events. The Son of God becoming man is historical and true.
The responsible man and husband Joseph: Joseph was a responsible and obedient citizen. Find two steps in vs.4-5 which he took that clearly demonstrate that he was a responsible person. As a Christian, how responsible are you towards your family and country, and towards God?
Note that as we take up our civil and social responsibilities, the purposes of God are fulfilled in us. Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem: It is amazing that the Son of God was born in this lowly town Bethlehem and laid in a manger. There was no place for Him in the normal places for visitors in the town! He had to make the animal pen His bedroom (vs.6-7)!

‣ Salvation of our souls, which has given us access unto God’s divine nature
PRAY FOR:
‣ Those who are yet to be saved, especially, members of our household, extended families, friends, etc., that this year’s Christmas celebration will be an opportunity for them to encounter Christ
‣ The love of Christ will be renewed in the heart of every believer, to reach the unreached with the gospel of Jesus Christ
