Read Matthew 2:1-2 again. By human standards, the wise men (cf: Luke 2:8-18) should not be among the first to receive the news of the birth of such an important person as the Saviour of the world. Why were the kings and nobles, not the first to receive the news of His birth? What does this teach us about the kingship of Christ?
The wise men (Greek: Magi), were probably astrologers (those who studied stars) and intellectuals of their time. What does this teach us about intellectualism and belief in God?
When the Magi abandoned the star that had led them, they got stuck in Jerusalem. What was the result of their action (Matthew 2:3-6,16)? How would you describe Herod? Do we have such leaders in our society and churches? When we abandon divine guidance for our human wisdom, we endanger our lives and that of others. But thanks be to God who always frustrates the plan of the wicked over us (Matthew 2:12).
Read Matthew 2:10-11 again. Having been redirected by the star, they found Jesus and offered Him precious gifts. What precious gift would you give to Jesus this season of Christmas?

The experience of the Magi is not an approval for Christians to indulge in horoscope or seek guidance by zodiac signs (see Deuteronomy 18:10-14). The Holy Spirit and the Bible are our primary sources of guidance, as believers in Christ.

PRAY FOR:
* Forgiveness for any way we have done what were supposed not to do, and left undone what we were supposed to do • Forgiveness for lack of faith and disobedience • Healing from guilt as a result of any of the above • Mercy and restoration of all that was lost • Grace for a better walk with Him in the years ahead.
