Scripture Union Daily Guide 26th March 2025 Outline
Israel got mixed up with the Moabites despite the great deliverance God gave them in the previous chapter. Many of the Israelites were seduced into sexual immorality and idolatry (Numbers 25:1-3). This was in clear violation of the commandments God had earlier given to them (see Exodus 20:2-4,14). God’s anger was thus provoked against Israel (Numbers 25:4-5). What was the result (Numbers 25:5-9)? How sin destroys – 24,000 persons lost their lives in the plague. Beware of sin!
Our love for God is demonstrated in our passionate hatred for sin. Notice how Phinehas demonstrated his love and zeal for God and hatred for sin in Numbers 25:7-8. In the same vein, we should hate sin enough to avoid it whenever, wherever, and however it seeks to manifest in our lives (see Colossians 3:5-6).
Notice the blessings that accompany pursuit of righteousness for the society, the individual and even generations after him (Numbers 25:10-13). Dare to take the right stand daily. While Phinehas was rewarded, Zimri and Cozbi were punished (Numbers 25:14-15). Your own life is going on record (2 Corinthians 5:10)
Food for Thought:
Sin is a killer; righteousness exalts.
And So:
Phinehas’ action could be due to his upbringing, being a third generation from Aaron, a challenge to Christian parents. What legacy are you leaving for your children and grandchildren?
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me to never compromise with sin but daily take a bold stand for righteousness.
