Scripture Union Daily Guide 26th May 2025 Outline
The assurance God gave renewed Gideon’s energy and boldness as he roused his greatly reduced forces to fight. He no longer looked at their number but the greatness of God. He chose weapons that were more appropriate for temple worship than the battlefield. It was something of a repetition of the battle of Jericho (Joshua 6:1-5). The soldiers of Israel stood in place while God fought the battle (Judges 7:22. See Exodus 14:13; 1 Samuel 12:16).
In this battle, the enemy soldiers fought against each other with their swords. Many enemy soldiers perished. Today many have encouraged Christians to appreciate the power and purpose of worship in all of one’s life situations. What else about this episode can we learn from Ephesians 6:10-12; Philippians 4:4-7?
The other side of this is that Gideon and his 300 men had swords ready to physically fight when it becomes necessary (Judges 7:20-23). In other words, as we submit to the fact that God would and could overrule us, we must have plans and be well equipped for whatever we must do. In what ways are you seeking to be trained and equipped for God’s service? Read 2 Timothy 3:15-17.
Finally, Gideon again took the opportunity to involve others in this battle (Judges 7:24-25).
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer:
I thank you, Lord, because you fight for me in all my battles to give me victory.
