Scripture Union Daily Guide – 27TH December 2024 Outline:
Read vs.21-24 and observe how the baby Jesus was taken through the rituals according to the Law of Moses. Now read Galatians 4:4. Christ Jesus was born at the right time, born of woman, under the Law and fulfilled all the demands as written in the Law of God. Thus, Christ did not come to abolish the Law, but to fulfil it. See Matthew 5:17. Note that v.22 encourages parents to present their newborn children to the Lord.
Two people testified of the baby Jesus being the promised Messiah. First, Simeon. How is he described in v.25? Can there be found today, ‘righteous and devout’ Christians waiting for the appearing of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ? Are there many who have the Holy Spirit upon them? Simeon showed evidence of being filled with and led by the Spirit of God. This should be the nature of the normal Christian life (Romans 8:14). Find three statements Simeon made about Christ in vs.30 and 32.
The second testimony was from the prophetess Anna. Clearly, marriage was not a pleasant experience for her, having lasted only seven years. She was a widow for the rest of her life. How did she spend the remaining time of her life? Check v.37 for the answer. She was rewarded and privileged to see the baby Messiah! Your devotion to God will surely be rewarded. Keep it up!
