Scripture Union Daily Guide 27th January 2025 Outline
Despite God’s glorious appearances and provisions for the people, they still were longing for the ‘delicacies’ of Egypt. Notice what stirred up this in Numbers 11:4. Let us be weary of the mixed multitude and their cravings! They behaved as if God had wronged them in taking them from that country and delivering them from slavery. They talked of Egypt as if they lived as princes there (Numbers 11:5)!
In Numbers 11:4-6, their unreasonable complaints are described for us. Notice how they described one of the Lord’s provisions for them, “…this manna” (Numbers 11:6). It is very provoking to God to undervalue His favours. The manna was like coriander seed. Probably this short description is added to show the iniquity of the people in murmuring, while they had so adequate a provision (see Psalms 78:25). The people got what they wanted but it came to them at a great cost (see Numbers 11:18-20). We must check the attitude with which we make our request to God.
Read Numbers 11:10-15 again. Why do you think Moses wanted to quit from providing leadership to the people? How we too often so weary our leaders that they desire to, or even, quit the ministry.
And So:
Do not worry saying, ‘what shall we eat?’ (Matthew 6:31-33).
