Scripture Union Daily Guide 28th January 2025 Outline:

God is not a respecter of any person. All He desires is our availability. He will then equip us for the discharge of our responsibilities. God graciously came to the aid of Moses by choosing and consecrating seventy elders who received some of the Spirit that was upon Moses (Numbers 11:25). There is no substitute for God’s Spirit for every leader. Jesus emphasized it (Acts 1:8).

Note that the temporary gift of prophecy on the elders was an anointing to judge and govern and not to prophesy (Numbers 11:25b). Unlike Joshua, Moses was neither jealous nor consider these other leaders as competitors (Numbers 11:28-29). Consider the power struggles present in the body of Christ today.

God fulfilled His promise to the people in Numbers 11:18-20 by the provision of quails (Numbers 11:31-32). Notice their abundance – “All that day and night and all the next day the people gathered quail” (Numbers 11:32). God often grants the desire of His own people in love and sometimes embarrasses us with what He provides for us! He granted their request but notice the consequence they suffered (Numbers 11:33, see also Psalms 105:14-15).
