Scripture Union Daily Guide 28th March 2025 Outline

Zelophehad’s daughters, in wisdom and unity, made an objective presentation of their case to Moses (Numbers 27:1-4). Like what happens in many cultures, females were not given inheritance in Israel. Moses took the right step by bringing their request before God (Numbers 27:5). Protocols were broken as God gave Moses a new law that favoured females and changed the course of history in Israel (Numbers 27:6-11). Zelophehad’s daughters did not carry placards to protest. What other lessons can you learn from them?

God insisted that Moses would die and not enter the Promised Land. Remember what brought this harsh judgment upon Moses (Numbers 20:7-12). As a result, he only saw the Promised Land from a distance but did not lead the people into it. This is because of the high standard God expects of men and women in positions of authority and leadership (Leveticus 10:3).

How do you assess Moses’ response (Numbers 27:15-17)? Instead of grumbling for the ‘misfortune Israelites caused him’, his desire and prayer is for a worthy successor to shepherd God’s people. And when God confirms Joshua to him, he readily accepts and hands over leadership to him (Numbers 27:22-23).

* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer:
Pray for your church and political leaders. Pray that changeover of leadership will be without hassle.
