Scripture Union Daily Guide 29 September 2024:
Anointing of Saul was a significant pointer to the call of God and what God was doing in his life spiritually. God was preparing him for the call to be the King of Israel. Even though it was a secret anointing at this point because it was not time for him to be presented openly, the Spirit of God came upon him, and he became a transformed man, equipped for the call (vs.5-6, 9). Compare that with Acts 2:1-12. In the New Testament church today, we have the permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit when Jesus comes into our lives.
The people were surprised because the prophets at the time had to belong in their community. Saul was not a part of that community, but he suddenly began to prophesy with them (vs.9-11). We can never limit God. He comes to us in His own ways. Are there any extraordinary workings of God that we struggle to accept today?
Notice what Saul told his inquisitive uncle. Discernment guides us in the news we share with people. How much of what was meant for only one person has become public story in the church or social media? Generally, Saul started well. He did not make a big show of his unexpected fortune (v.16). Is he going to continue steadfast to the end?

Spirit of God, descend upon my heart

I see the cross there teach my heart to cling.

4. Teach me to feel that you are always nigh;
teach me the struggles of the soul to bear,
to check the rising doubt, the rebel sigh;
teach me the patience of unceasing prayer.
5. Teach me to love you as your angels love,
one holy passion filling all my frame:
the fullness of the heaven-descended Dove;
my heart an altar, and your love the flame.

Thank you, Lord, for the ordinary and extraordinary things you do in our lives.

‣ Raising capable men and women at all level, taking charge of trainings.
PRAY FOR:
‣ The Regional Coordinators, the TSes and Bookshop chairmen for wisdom and insight to train.
‣ The pilgrim will hunger and thirst for training and workshops.
‣ The birthday of our dear nation, that the Almighty will have mercy upon us and change the hand writing to a better Nigeria.
