• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Today’s Outline On Scripture Union Daily Guide 2nd January 2021
Take note of how the story begins. Jesus Christ did not just wander into the wilderness. He was led by the Holy Spirit. Also, what was His purpose for going there? He desired to draw close to His Father through prayer and fasting. This means that even when we are following the Lord closely, we can still encounter serious temptations and troubles. It is important, therefore, not to judge others when they have such serious problems but to give them all the support within our means. How did the temptations unfold?
Satan used the words of the Scripture to tempt Jesus by twisting it; and on each occasion, Jesus Christ showed the true meanings of the words which the enemy misapplied. We must follow His example by knowing and applying the rules for the correct interpretation of the Bible. For example, we must learn to check the context of every quotation and compare it with what other parts of the Bible say on the subject. Notice how we should treasure God’s word (v. 4; Job 23: 12)
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Practice/Word Application
• Warning: Jesus Christ, like Moses and Elijah before Him, fasted for 40 days and forty nights. People have been known to die as a result of trying to do the same. It is important to have proper medical guidance before taking such action.
Hymn: Jesus My Lord
1 Jesus, my Lord, my God, my all,
hear me, blest Savior, when I call;
hear me, and from thy dwelling place
pour down the riches of thy grace.
Refrain:
Jesus, my Lord, I thee adore;
O make me love thee more and more.
2 Jesus, too late I thee have sought;
how can I love thee as I ought?
And how extol thy matchless fame,
the glorious beauty of thy name?
