Scripture Union Daily Guide 30 September 2025 Today’s Devotional

Topic: Christ: the ultimate message of God

Opening Prayer
My dear heavenly Father, as I study your word, let it be a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

Bible Text
Hebrews 1:1-14

INTRODUCTION TO HEBREWS
Hebrews is a general epistle believed to have been written to a group of Jewish Christians who were wavering between continuing in Christianity and going back to Judaism, their former faith, because of persecution and spiritual immaturity. They should have been mature Christians, by this time, but they still needed to be taught elementary doctrines (Hebrews 5:11-14 to Hebrews 6:1-2). The author reminds them that what they have in Christ is far better than what they have in Judaism.

The author compares and contrasts the person and the sacrifice of Christ with the Old Testament priesthood and sacrificial system. He concludes that Christ is not only greater and better but also the ultimate and perfect sacrifice for our sins. He, therefore, urges his audience to persevere in the faith and not go back, no matter the cost (Hebrews 10:19-39). As we study the book, may we find encouragement to continue with Christ in the face of persecution and trials of faith.

Meditation Question
â–º Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
â–º Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 30th September 2025: Christ Outline

Prophets and angels were very important in the Old Testament era for passing on God’s messages to His people. In the past, men had venerated angels and placed more emphasis on them than they ought to. Also, in recent times, there has been an increase in the activities of prophets in our Churches particularly in Africa both in physical gathering and online. Some folks go to meetings to hear their prophets and no longer what the Bible says.

As New Testament believers, to whom should we listen (Hebrews 1:1-2)? What does it mean that God now speaks to us by His Son? Everything we need to know about God, our salvation, and how to live a life that pleases God, can be found in Jesus (Hebrews 1:3). We may listen to whoever else; if we have not heard Jesus, we have heard nothing (Matthew 17:5). How can we listen to and hear Jesus? Jesus is the ultimate message of God to us in these last days, and no longer prophets or angels. Go through Hebrews 1:4-14 again and identify five ways that Jesus is superior to angels.
